Quilting with a View

There's been a little quilting progress on my baby quilt.  Almost two printed squares are done now.  Whoo-hoo!  I'm really tearing!  But who can blame me for not spending more time indoors with the lake right outside my window?

Unfortunately it was a little too windy to quilt outside.  Instead I spent most of my vacation just enjoying having a boat deck and sun.

I also picked off a few more mountains.  I even got my revenge hike on the only peak I previously attempted without making it to the top.  That's 32 hiked and 14 to go!  I've started out really strong this season - 7 mountains already in 2014.

After returning home it occurred to me that if I was going to make blocks for no hats in the house's June palate, I should probably start before it's July!  The center units were made last night and hopefully I'll get the points assembled today.

I even got my stripes to play nice!

Rainbow Baby Quilt - Finished Top

One small rainbow quilt top: finished!

I just stepped away from my husband for a minute to check the wash... and an hour and a half later, I had a quilt top.  Whoops!   I'm very easily thrown off course.

It doesn't lie entirely flat, but the panel had a warp in it that I couldn't get out no matter what I tried.  So instead I'll just have to ease it in.

Basting it is up next and I hope to have it done by Friday so that I can take this quilt on vacation with me next week.  I don't know how much I'll get to do, but at least I'll have it if I want it.

I'm excited to have a hand quilting project again...  and one I can even blog about!

The Dix Range

On Saturday my husband and I hiked 5 mountains, 16.5 miles, and just over 13 hours.  And today I'm feeling every mile.  But it was an absolutely gorgeous day; warm and sunny with a perfect clarity of view!

It was a very ambitious hike for being the first of the season.  Regardless, I wouldn't have traded it for anything.  And now I have 30 of my 46 High Peaks!

The only downside was that the black flies are alive and thriving.  They are nasty little bugs - 90% mouth, I'm sure of it!

After all that hiking, I did manage to hobble over to my sewing room to trim up my HSTs.  This morning I laid them out around my baby panel to give them a look over.

I'm trying to decide if I want to make another orange for the top and another purple for the bottom so that I don't have transitions that occur in the middle of a colored pair.  But aside from wanting to do a little futzing with the layout, I'm loving how it's coming out!

The triangles for my border have been sewn, pressed, and are just waiting for a little trimming.

I loved how the colors were peeking out of the stack.

It seems that most of what I did this week was acquire new fabric; primarily yellow fabric.  Everything I bought has a purpose so I'm in the clear.  But I do need to get back to being good after this!

{no} hats in the house - #opgivewarmth

Flannel

I had been going to piece the back of my baby quilt, but I decided that for such a small quilt it pays to go simple.  I can use a yard and a half of a pretty flannel and leave the piecing for those quilts big enough to need it!  So I went to the store and found this bright yellow flannel.

Then I couldn't resist a little high street.

And last but not least, Sarah at {no} hats in the house is calling for blocks for My Very Own Blanket.  The palette really spoke to me this month so I picked up some great colors to make some blocks!
