Woodland Sampler - January

After my flurry of productivity last year, I've been rather unmotivated about making headway on my quilt projects.  Instead, I've started the Woodland Sampler from the Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery that everyone else was making last year.

I haven't finished my January block yet because I'm worried about how poorly the white floss is showing up on my oatmeal Aida.  I'm trying to decide whether to continue on with the white floss or choose an almost white color that might show up better.  Some months will be getting a color substitution, but maybe the snowflakes are okay being very very subtle...

In the meantime, I started the border for February.  I'm not too far off the timeline yet!

  1. At least in your photo, the white snowflakes are very hard to see. Very very subtle, I'd say. I found you from Sew Fresh Quilts. linky

  2. I agree with yourself and Lin. The white is hard to see. What about using a very pale blue instead? Your stitching is sew sweet. Those reindeer are adorable!

  3. Those deer are so cute! I think Lorna's idea of a light blue for the snowflakes would be perfect.

  4. This is such a cute sampler. Have you thought about a shiny/sparkly/iridescent white? If it catches the light it might be more noticable.

  5. Aww, I see what you mean about the oatmeal being pretty light. I like the light blue suggestion, or if you're really masochistic you could always do silver. :) I think the light blue would be lovely, though!

  6. I love cross stitch! I love the shiny thought too. Of course, I should buy stock in hot fix crystals. hehe!

  7. Super cute! Hmmm... I see what you mean about the white not showing up against the oatmeal. Maybe you could thread some silver sewing machine thread onto your needle along with your white embroidery floss to add a bit of sparkle?
