The last piece that I finished in 2013 was this wall hanging. I'm very proud of this piece. It was an interesting challenge to construct a quilt from a non-quilter's pattern and very meaningful to be able to make this for my niece. In addition, it is the first piece that I managed to make mostly from my stash!
Common Ground
24 x 24"
Machine pieced, Hand quilted.
I may have attached the sleeve in a hotel room the evening before we flew out of town. Excellent conditions to work on my first sleeve in at least eight years. When I had to un-stitch part to fix it, that small little hotel room was not a very nice place to be. I think my husband may be a saint.

What a fabulous design! Your niece must be thrilled. The quilting really makes this piece extra special and those clouds are a nice touch. Great job, Rachel!
ReplyDeleteHow unique - love the rotated block layout ... and have to agree with Lorna - lovely quilting :)
ReplyDeleteI love quilts that don't have an up or down! Great pattern.
ReplyDeleteI love your fabric choices! Are they batiks by chance? I am looking for more modern ways to use batiks and this looks like a good idea.
ReplyDeleteCool. I have never seen attaching the sleeve this way. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very cool pattern! It took me a minute to see the trees because I was seeing mountains in the purples. :-) I tend to put sleeves on almost all of my quilts as I'm doing the binding though I have often been asked by clients to attach a sleeve like this when the binding has already been put on. Usually on older quilts that they want to display instead of use. You did a great job with this - Well done!
